My Values as An EFT Practitioner

Margaret who is an EFT Practitioner smiling at the camera. Long dark blonde hair. Black shirt. Wearing pink clear glasses.

Finding the right healer shouldn’t include searching every single piece of their work to only be left with guesses of where they stand on important issues and what they value in their business.

And honestly – I would argue that any healer who isn’t open and honest about their values needs to reevaluate their work because every single social issue impacts all of us and our clients deserve to know what influences our approach.

So, I’m sharing more about the eight values that deeply influence my work as an EFT practitioner, mentor, and business owner.

Because it is all connected. Let’s talk about it!

  1. Confidentiality

I am a locked vault! And you would think this could be difficult for someone who loves to talk but nope! Anything and everything my clients tell me is confidential – meaning it stays between us.

And even if you’re not my client, I’m not going to share any of your personal details that you share with me because why would I? No one needs to know that!

All of my clients sign a confidentiality form that shares what this truly means in our work together and the very few times I may need to share information – like if I ever need to contact your emergency contact.

My clients trust me with such sensitive parts of themselves and their lives. They deserve choice on who they share it with.

2. Trauma informed care

Every person has been touched by trauma in some way – experiencing an event that hurt you to your core, experiencing life under oppressive systems, hearing stories from family and friends of painful moments in their life, not having access to necessary resources to feel safe and cared for, and so much more.

But trauma is not only what happens to us or around us, it is how our body experiences it. Have you heard of fight or flight? Yes, I’m talking about that.

And two people could go through the same experience and have completely different responses in their body. Even after the experience, their body may return to regulation or exist in the response as if the moment continued to happen.

So, in my practice, the first step to trauma-informed care is recognizing those differences and being curious about your experience – not putting you in a box of what “should” be the response.

Because we are all complex humans! It’s unfair to pretend we’re all the same.

Or that we’ve had the same experiences and perspectives in life. Which is why trauma-informed care also means honoring your experiences that led you to where you are now.

And intentionally spending time to widen my perspectives of humanity and other cultures, because again – everyone is different and there is no box or one way.

Trauma-informed care also means I’m honoring your pace, your body’s response, your desires, your hopes, your goals – those all drive all of my work.

I am not here to tell you what to do. I’m here to listen to where you are and guide you using EFT to support your body in learning the past is in the past and that you are safe & whole as you are.

In short, trauma-informed care means you get choice, I see you as a full complex human being who deserves compassion, and we use EFT to show your body that you are okay without forcing.

With my training in EFT Tapping, I have many techniques to pull from to honor your pace with your safety and healing at the center of it.

And – one thing often forgotten or glazed over in coaching spaces – I’m clear about my scope. I cannot be everything to one person. Your healing is not limited to EFT or the 60-minutes we spend together. Healing is everywhere. So, I will encourage you to support yourself with more than only EFT and if something comes up where you need different care, I will tell you when something is out of my scope.

To learn more about a trauma-informed future, I love learning from Katie Kurtz. This podcast episode with the basics is a great place to start. Or you can take her TRUST course – I’m currently making my way through it!

3. Life-long learning

If I could live a million different lives within this one, I would! But since unfortunately I am not an immortal mermaid living in the ocean, I choose to live a million lives by learning anything and everything I can.

As I’m writing this blog post, I’m currently studying Spanish, American Sign Language (ASL), and Sociology.

But I love to learn everything – business topics, how the economy works, spirituality and religion history and rituals, how to fix a vacuum, how to use astrology in my life, how creativity helps us heal. So many topics.

And I want you to know this about me because all healers should continue to learn what changes about their work and keep working to strengthen their skills by widening their world view. We do this by being a life-long learner.

4. Liberation for all

I believe all of humanity and nature are interconnected. We are connected by living together on the same planet. We drink the same water, breathe the same air, and live under the same sun and moon. So much of our lives are connected – that it only makes sense that we are energetically connected as well.

Which means if one person is hurting or experiencing violence, then we are all experiencing it. Whether we acknowledge it or not.

I am against all violence and oppressive systems. I believe every human on this beautiful planet deserves to live a free life – where they have choice and access to resources. I believe nature deserves care and respect.

And in my personal life, I am active in understanding what is happening in the world and take action aligned with my belief and hope in liberation for all.

“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing," Arundhati Roy

5. Non-judgment

I know everyone says “no judgment!”  but I want to show you what I mean. This is what goes through my head during an EFT session:

“I hate that this is so painful for her”

“Omg I need to remember to ask her if she finished the book she started last week”

“What technique should I use – oh I know!”

“Wait did this happen before or after the time her mom said the other thing? Let me ask”

At no point am I judging you for feeling a certain way, for your body reacting to something so deeply, for how long you may be upset about something – that’s not my job! (and let’s be real – that’s not helpful)

I remind my clients all the time that if you tell me something is painful: I believe you and you don’t have to justify it to me or worry that I think you’re “too sensitive”

If you haven’t read my love letter to sensitive people and you’re worried about that, please read this note.

I am the “please tell me more” person. I want to know what you want me to know.

And I looooove the “taboo” topics. This means I purposefully consume content and learn about things like: sex, shame, death, religious trauma, probably even more that I don’t even know people consider taboo!

So, when I tell you, I do not judge my clients and this space is yours to show up as you. This is what I mean.

6. Accessibility

Let’s break down what accessibility means in my work because it can mean many things and part of being accessible is making things clear!

So, I’m going to tell you three ways I make sure my work and business do two important things: consider & implement accessibility.

  1. My sessions are fully adjusted to my clients needs

You would hope that every practitioner does it but sadly my clients have told me about healing spaces they’ve been in where it’s the practitioner’s way or no way. That’s not okay.

With my clients, here are some of the things we adjust in sessions:

  • What we focus on that day – if what you said you wanted to work on a few days before no longer apples? Okay! What do you want to use this time for?

  • What points we tap on. If you have mobility limitations or just don’t like a point – we skip and I give alternatives.

  • If the memory is too painful, we can tap on not wanting to tap on it! Or we can take a break and chit chat about something else to give yourself some space.

  • Breathing cues. Don’t like them? (personally – being told to breathe in a specific way is not my favorite most days) Then we won’t use them!

Read this blog post for more examples of things I do in EFT sessions (that isn’t tapping) to support my clients!

2. I offer a sliding scale for my clients

And if my prices ever increase – you’re locked in on the price you started with if you kept a consistent schedule with me.

My sliding scale model is "The Green Bottle" framework by Alexis J. Cunningfolk.

It’s run by the honor system – basically, I trust you to be honest with me about what you can afford and I’m not going to ask you for proof.

Price shouldn’t dictate if you can access support, and let’s be honest – we already have way too many barriers to care (it’s especially hard for certain groups of people) sooo I’m doing my part in breaking it down!

3. My design is intentional

Something my website, my emails to clients, my client-only resources, my social media all have in common – I considered my fonts and colors carefully.

Plus, things like making sure my navigation is clear, having alt-text for images, and avoiding design that makes it hard to look at (like flashing images or text being way too close together).

If you’re a business owner or have a website, I really love the accessibility checklist by Chloe Arielle Design.

Accessibility is forever changing AND everyone has different needs. If you notice any part of my website that you believe could be improved for accessibility – I want to hear about it. Tell me about it through my contact form.

7. Honoring and compassion for all parts of you

Okay – if you haven’t read the Trauma-Informed and Non-Judgment parts of this blog post, go read them because those are a part of this value. (remember how I said everything on this planet is connected? Same with my work.)

There’s two things we can do as we’re trying to heal:

We can criticize ourselves and tell ourselves we’re doing things wrong – feeling things wrong.

Or we can show ourselves compassion by saying “this is where I am and that’s okay”

This is what EFT does. (I talk more about the acceptance piece of EFT in this blog post)

And I fully live that in my work.

When we work together, I will ask you to be honest about how you feel – even if that means saying “i don’t even want to think about this today” because we can work with that! We can tap saying that. To honor how you’re showing up and not force yourself into “well i’m here so I guess I have to go into this.”

And when you do the big courageous thing of being honest about how you feel. We are not going to say: You shouldn’t feel that way. You’re being too sensitive. You’re taking too long to heal.

We are doing to tap on how you feel > it can sound like:

“This is how I feel and that’s okay”

“Even though I feel upset by this, maybe I can be gentle with myself”

“Even though I don’t think I can get over this, right here and now i’m just going to feel it”

Okay so – no rushing, no forcing, no pretending you are okay when you’re not.

We’re going to sit with the parts that are feeling and exactly what they are feeling.

8. No AI in my work

No word on this website, within my newsletter, on social media, or in my client resources was written by AI. I do not use AI in my business or my personal life.

And honestly – if I could never hear “you should ask chatgpt” again, I would be the HAPPIEST person ever.

(Seriously, please stop telling me I just have to use it. Because no! I don’t!)

I don’t want to ask a robot! I want to ask my smart friends! I want to hear from humans!

I truly believe human-made is best. And I do not want to contribute to the environmental impacts and impacts to communities that are facing pollution due to the rise in data centers.

Plus, AI steals from artists and writers, makes up information, and is designed to affirm you no matter what (and never being challenged or asked to go deeper can be harmful).

None of those things appeal to me.

So, I do not use AI in my work.
